Patrick’s schoolbag thudded against the hallway bench, followed by the double thuds of his sneakers, unlaced, of course. I sighed.
I sat back from the computer. “Up here. Don’t forget the door.”
His racing footsteps stopped halfway up the stairs and then thumped back down.
While I listened to Patrick key in the security code, followed by the short, high pitched whine of the retinal scan, I sorted a few more emails, accidentally marking the Network team’s latest warning as spam. I actually considered leaving it there for a full second before giving in and removing it.
“Dad!” Patrick was on his way back up. “Can we go to the moon this summer? Barry and Greg went over vacation and they said it was awesome!”
