“Mr. Nemmons.” Gerent’s voice drifts over Reynolds’ shoulder. It’s less uncertain, but kind of distant, as if he’s reading lines. “According to the law, we don’t have to ask your permission, but we would prefer your cooperation at this time. Please,” there’s a pause and I crane around Reynolds to see Gerent looking down at his cliptop, then nod to himself and look up.
“Please show…” he sees me watching him and he blinks a few times, then continues, “…show us your networks.”
Reynolds steps inside, cramping the small entry space, and gestures up the stairs again. “Sir.”
