one step at a time
haven’t been putting as much time into writing lately, but even the 5 minutes minimum is worth it, every time. in only those minutes scribbled before sleep these last couple nights, i’ve discovered two very interesting developments in Running on Empty.
first, i found an unexpected (though self-evident in hindsight) connection between a criminal underworld figure and some characters I thought were throwaways, providing an even tighter web around Herrick than i had envisioned.
second, i discovered an undercurrent of addiction in the story. this was unexpected not only for certain characters, but also in the addiction itself. it’s cool as a story idea, but growing more disturbing as i think about the ramifications of it (and the potential ‘reality’ of it).
every single day is a discovery.
